Washing embroidered clothing requires a bit of care to preserve the stitching and extend the lifespan of your garment. Here are some tips:
-
Check Care Labels: Always start with the care labels for any specific washing instructions.
-
Turn Inside Out: Turn the garment inside out to protect the embroidery from friction and potential snagging.
-
Cold Water Wash: Use cold water on a gentle cycle to help maintain the colors and prevent damage to the embroidery.
-
Mild Detergent: Use a mild detergent. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals that could affect the fabric or embroidery.
-
Avoid Fabric Softener: Fabric softeners can sometimes leave a residue that might affect the embroidery.
-
Air Dry: It’s best to air dry embroidered items. If you need to use a dryer, opt for a low heat setting.
-
Ironing: If ironing is needed, do it on the reverse side of the fabric. Use a low heat setting, and avoid directly ironing over the embroidery. This can burn, shrink or warp the stitches.
By following these steps, you can help ensure your embroidered clothing stays in great condition!
